This cylindrical pen case has a large gusset, and the gusset is made of flexible Tochigi leather. The locking clasp is used for the cover so that it is safe to put a lot of contents inside.
Pinch the top knob and pull up to unlock and open.
Push it in until clicks, then it locks and will not come off.
Bridle leather is the way that a piece of leather (cow hide) is finished at the tannery. It has both sides, the flesh and grain, stuffed with greases and finished with wax. This is an intensive labor process.
